Buddha Bar IV by David Visan

David Visan was born in Paris in 1976. With a French father and Vietnamese mother, he immediately gained an appreciation for a variety of cultures, especially when it came to music. As a teenager, David's interest in music peaked when he was rocked by the songs and melodies of the Beatles and pop rock, which at that time was the rage in France. Later on his taste in music broadened and his love for Parisian nightlife led to the beginning of his career as a DJ. After working in several Parisian clubs David became unsatisfied with the confines of electronic music and sought to develop his musical career further. He decided to move to the United States to study bass and guitar at the Los Angeles Music Institute. David explains: "For me, music is an encounter between various sensations, I don't like 100 % electronic tracks, I prefer the presence of acoustic instruments which give music a more human side". With his interest in the organic side of music and his exposure to the many cultures that make up the melting pot of America, David also became influenced by Latin music, especially Cuban music (as a result of the reunion of the Buena Vista Social Club) and Brazilian rhythms. In addition to his time in the States, David lived in London where he was exposed to Indian music, another genre of music that he quickly grew to respect. On returning to Paris, David wished to incorporate all the various flavors of music into his repertoire. He figured the best way to accomplish that kind of fusion was to return to deejaying and he sought out acclaimed DJ Claude Challe who soon became his mentor. After training for a few months, David explains that he "learned how to mix exoticism with warm sensuousness" which he claims "is the type of atmosphere [he] relishes." Along with the world music sounds he used in his sets, David also began delving into tribal house beats. Soon David Visan became the "spirit" of the Buddha-Bar. After producing the compilations "Chill-Out in Paris I", "Chill-Out in Paris II","Chill-Out in Paris III", "Buddha-Bar IV" and "Buddha-Bar V", David became very famous all over the world.
